WEMS 09/12/2011
It was our regular season opener on Sunday and I am going to jump straight into what I thought of the game. In past years I have always been concerned with the effort I got out of the team, and with this being their last season I was a little concerned that the work rate and commitment level would drop even more. All these concerns were alleviated at yesterday’s game. Yes we lost, and I hate losing, but we lost to a better team on the day and we gave 100%, which is all I can ask.

We are struggling with injuries and with sickness throughout the team so I knew yesterday’s game was going to be a tall order. WGFC is a very good team and probably a little bigger and a little stronger in every position but what we lacked in size we more that accounted for in effort.
We didn’t do ourselves any favors by starting off a slow and scared which resulted in conceding 2 weak early goals, but as the game went on I though we started to grow in confidence. Unfortunately we didn’t possess the ball well enough and we didn’t take at least one of our clear cut chances. It would have been a huge boost to come into the half being just 1 goal down.

I know I am always bias towards my team but I honestly felt that we were slightly the better team in the second half. I am not by any stretch of the imagination saying that we deserved to win the game but I definitely felt we deserved to win the second half. We had 2 or 3 chances and another clear cut chance that would probably have been scored on a different day.

The last goal we conceded was harsh on us because I felt it was against the run of play but I have been doing this long enough to know that it’s how the game goes sometimes.

I was very pleased with our effort and proud of my team for giving everything they had. Unfortunately it wasn’t enough on the day but all we can do is give all we have. There are many positives we can take from this game and if we can keep bringing the effort and get everyone healthy hopefully we can continue to improve.

WEMS 12/06/2010
Hey Guys

I hope you will all forgive me for the short WEMS this week but truth be told that there isn’t much I can say that the girls haven’t already said with their performances this weekend. We played 4 games and dominated most portions of every game (only conceding 1 goal). I was particularly impressed with Saturday night’s performance as I thought we defended well, possessed the ball incredibly well and created and number of chances. It is the best we have looked all year.

I hope that next year I can finally figure out the formula. Last year we started impressively and faded towards the end of the season. This year we had a rocky start but to the girls’ credit, they have hung in there, worked incredibly hard and got their just rewards. The last few weeks have been incredible and it all culminated in some stellar performances this weekend. The final wasn’t the prettiest game of the season but justice was done in us winning although it had to go to penalties.

I am always in awe of the parent support from the sidelines. It was freezing this weekend but it was great to see everyone bundled up and cheering their kids on from the sidelines. These girls continue to amaze and sometimes surprise me at their unity, loyalty and ability and I am proud of what they have achieved.

Congratulations ladies.
